A Strafford home was destroyed by a fire Wednesday evening. Property owners Dot and Bill Burden said the blaze started on their two-story home's deck. The couple was not injured. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the house on Old City Falls Road was already fully engulfed. Officials at the scene said they encountered difficulties getting hoses up the approximately half-mile driveway and water also froze. The cause of the fire remains unknown. The Burdens, who have lived in the home for more than 20 years, were going to stay with their son, who lives nearby the couple's home. An unattached garage near the house appeared to have escaped damage. Stafford, Vershire, Thetford, Norwich, Sharon and West Fairlee fire departments responded to the call.
