Richard Elwin Breed

Claremont, N.H. — Richard Elwin Breed, 75, of Beechmont Street, Claremont died Friday morning, March 8, 2013, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, Vt. He was a native and life-long resident of Claremont born on March 15, 1937, the son of Elwin Arthur and Olga Pauline (Peterson) Breed.

Richard was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Richard was employed as the Assistant Administrator of the Sullivan County Nursing Home for 34 years.

He was a parishioner of the First Congregational Church currently on the Diaconate, the Financial Secretary, head usher and a former Trustee. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 32 at the church, District Commissioner for the Mantoa District, Boys Scouts of America, Advisor of Mantoa Chapter Order of the Arrow and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from Daniel Webster Council, Boy Scouts of America and the District Award Merit.

Richard was the recipient of the God and Church Recognition from the Congregational Church Commission for the Church and Youth Agency.

He was an active member of the Stevens High School Alumni Association presently serving as 2nd Vice-President and on the Parade and Finance Committees. He was a member of the Odd Fellows.

The surviving family includes a sister, Margaret B. Bauver of Claremont; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, a sister, Eleanor P. Breed and a niece, Kristin Bauver.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Monday evening March 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday afternoon, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Priscilla Hull, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Claremont.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Sullivan County Health Care/Activity Room, 5 Nursing Home Drive, Unity, NH 03743.
