Elizabeth Bettis Whitney
White River Junction, Vt. — Elizabeth Bettis Whitney, 85, died at home in White River Junction on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.
She was born Feb. 18, 1928 in the Russtown District of Hartford, Vt., the daughter of John N. and Rubie (Ploof) Bettis. She graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1945 and went to work for the former Cross-Abbott Co. in White River Jct. She was married to Bernard “Joe” Whitney Oct. 10, 1953, and they resided in the White River Jct. area all of their lives. In 1955 Mrs. Whitney went to work for the former Degnan Insurance Agency in West Lebanon, where she worked for over thirty years, retiring in 1990. Mr. Whitney died Sept. 21, 2006.
Mrs. Whitney was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served as a former Vestry Member and Youth Group leader.
She was predeceased by her four brothers, Raymond, Landon, Charles and Kempton Bettis. Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
At Mrs. Whitney’s request a graveside service will be held in the Hartford Cemetery at a date to be announced in June.
