Albert R. Knudsen
South Royalton, Vt. — Albert R. Knudsen, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at his home in South Royalton, Vt.
He was born June 4, 1929, in Tunbridge, Vt., the son of Otto S. and Ellen (Davis) Knudsen. He attended school in North Tunbridge in a one-room schoolhouse. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. On July 10, 1952, he married Frances Palmer, together they had four children and later they divorced. On March 19, 1965, he married Helen Willard of Clinton, Conn. For most of his life, Albert was a self-employed logger. He always enjoyed logging and in later years he and his son, Albert ran the business together.
Albert liked the outdoors. He enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting, fishing with his old buddies, going to dog trials throughout New England, maple sugaring and vegetable gardening. When he wasn’t outside, he liked reading factual books. He was a 46-year member of the Elk’s Club #2099 in Lebanon, N.H. and a member of the American Legion Post #51 in South Royalton for 16 years.
He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Helen Knudsen; a son, Albert Knudsen, both of South Royalton; three daughters, Linda Degenhardt of Viola, Wis., JoAnne Heath of Rutland, Vt. and Wanda Knudsen of South Royalton; two step-daughters, Deborah Bilancini of Seneca Falls, N.Y. and Susan Blake of South Royalton; his cherished dog, “Zoey”; nine grandchildren, Sara, Jolene, Michael, Michelle, Jennifer, Michelle, Cindy, Chrissy and Olivia; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Knudsen of East Randolph, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Ferrigno; a granddaughter, Erin Coburn; five brothers, Richard Knudsen, Donald Knudsen, Kenneth Knudsen, Alfred Knudsen and Arthur Knudsen; and five sisters, Gladys Binkley, Alwilde Bortugno, Clara Redlon, Lillian Knudsen and Marie Knudsen.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Tunbridge Congregational Church in Tunbridge with Rev. Deadra Ashton and Rev. David Wolfe officiating. Family and friends are invited to share in a time of fellowship, refreshments and storytelling following the service which will be held at the Tunbridge Town Hall.
