Joseph Morrison Salsbury, Jr.
Meriden, N.H. — Joseph Morrison Salsbury, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born in 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of Emily Kimmel Appel and Joseph Morrison Salsbury, Sr. He graduated from Shadyside Academy in Pittsburgh in 1951 and from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955. Joe settled in California, where he married Judy Macartney in 1963.
Joe and Judy owned and operated the Meriden Country Store in New Hampshire for 30 years. During much of this time Joe served as Postmaster in Meriden, where he was also active in the Congregational Church and choir, the Meriden Players and the Bird Club.
Joe and Judy retired to Fearrington Village, N.C. in 1998 where he was active with the Fearrington Swim and Croquet Club, the Christ United Methodist Church and choir and was a volunteer at UNC Medical Center.
Joe and Judy moved to the Maple Suites retirement community in Dover, N.H. in 2011.
Joe was passionate about music and theater and could often be found with his family in the kitchen.
Family members include his wife, Judy; son, Michael and his wife, Lynnlae, of California, son, Mark and his wife, Connie of Maryland, daughter, Karen and her husband, Ric Moore of Washington state, son, Joe and wife, Janet of Dover, N.H.; grandchildren, Becky, Heather, Rivers and Jesse; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s name to the ASPCA, or a charity of your choice.
