Gail A Race

White River Junction, Vt. — Gail A Race, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at her home surrounded by family.

She was born in 1929 in Bangor, Maine the daughter of Robert A. and Alice (Sibley) Hawes. Gail Moved to Hanover, N.H. at the age of five and was raised there where she graduated from Hanover High School class of 1947. She was married a short time after graduation to Henry John Race. Together they traveled around the world while he was deployed in the military. In 1968, when Henry retired they returned to Fairlee, Vt. where they lived and she went to work for Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital as a dietary worker. She retired in 1985, and they moved to White River Junction.

Gail was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, N.H. and a lifetime member of the Montpelier Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary Post 792. She enjoyed working on crafts including embroidery and knitting, loved reading, working on crosswords but most of all she loved to spend time with her family.

Gail is predeceased by her husband, Henry J. Race, and a son, Peter A. Race.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Race of Hyde Park, Vt. and Martin Race of Websterville, Ohio; and four daughters, Tamara Race of White River Junction, Anita Perry of St. Albans, Vt., Linda Mosley of Winston Salem, N.C. and Judith Hoepker of Vallejo, Calif.; several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt. with the Rev. David Brown of the First Baptist Church of Lebanon officiating.
