Nuts & Bolts: Infiniti Q60 IPL 6MT
Bottom line: The Infiniti Q60 Journey Coupe is the best deal of the Q60 bunch. The Q60 IPL 6MT coupe is a Walter Mitty dream harshly interrupted by price, a ride rougher than most of us would like, and effective traffic enforcement on most streets and highways in the United States.
Ride, acceleration and handling: Ride is too rough for many of us. Handling is excellent. You can move from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds, assuming you can find an open, non-policed road to do it.
Head-turning quotient: Highly confusing. Is it a G37, new Nissan 370Z, that new Q60 Journey, a new Nissan Altima ... what?
Body style/layout: The 2014 Infiniti Q60 IPL 6MT coupe is a compact, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, luxury-sport version of the Infiniti Q60 line (formerly G37 line) with two side doors and a rear hatch. “6MT” refers to six-speed manual transmission. The Q60 coupe line also includes a seven-speed automatic and an all-wheel-drive version.
Engine/transmission: The car comes with a 3.7-liter, 24-valve, V-6 gasoline engine with variable valve timing, delivering 348 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard. A seven-speed automatic, also with manual operating capability, is optional.
Capacities: There are comfortable, supportive seats for the driver and front passenger. Rear quarters are squeezed, especially for large adults. Fuel capacity is 20 gallons. Premium grade gasoline is required.
Real-world mileage: I averaged 15 miles per gallon in mostly city driving. The few highway excursions in this car averaged 23 miles per gallon - not impressive.
Safety: Standard equipment includes front and rear ventilated disc brakes; four-wheel antilock brake protection; emergency braking assistance; electronic brake-force distribution; stability and traction control; side and head air bags; and high-intensity discharge headlamps.
Price: The base price of the 2014 Infiniti Q60 IPL 6MT coupe is $51,650, with an estimated dealer’s invoice price of $49,000. Price as tested is $52,555, including a $905 factory-to-dealer shipment charge. Estimated dealer’s price as tested is $50,000. Again, the best Q60 coupe deals are on the non-IPL models.
