Grants Support Athlete Development
White River Junction — Second Growth recently received grants totaling $10,000 for its Coaching for Captains program, a leadership development program for high school athletes.
The money includes $5,000 from the Hypertherm Owners’ Philanthropic Endeavors Foundation and $5,000 from The Children’s Fund of the Upper Valley, a component fund of the Upper Valley Region of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
Coaching for Captains is designed to inspire and prepare teen athletes to become role models and leaders in their communities, Second Growth said in a recent news release. This year, the program is working with more than 50 athletes from nine local high schools.
“This funding allows us to continue our work with athletes around decreasing instances of bullying and hazing tied to sports, as well as breaking the cycle of substance misuse and athletics,” said Kara Toms, Coaching for Captains program director.
