New London Hospital Officer Named Community Member of the Year

New London — Karen Zurheide, New London Hospital’s vice president of community relations and development, has been named 2013 Community Member of the Year by the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce.

The award honors people who have made “significant contributions to encourage and promote commerce that enhances the quality of life in the Lake Sunapee Region,” the hospital said in a recent news release. Zurheide was chosen for her outstanding service and commitment to the community, the hospital said.

A longtime New London resident, she has been involved with a variety of community organizations. Currently, she serves on the Kearsarge Lake Sunapee Community Food Pantry board of directors, the LSRCC board of directors and the program advisory committee for Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center. She also volunteers as a grant writer for the Kearsarge Chorale and other nonprofits.

She previously served as business membership coordinator for Lake Sunapee Protective Association.

Before joining the hospital in July, Zurheide was regional president for Ledyard National Bank.

Prior to that, she was executive director of The Fells in Newbury. — Compiled by Aimee Caruso
