Letter: Wielgus Was a Great Role Model
To the Editor:
I am so disappointed with Dartmouth for what I believe was its decision to force Chris Wielgus to resign from coaching. I do not believe she was treated fairly. My interest in this comes from my daughter-in-law, who played basketball at Dartmouth and was on championship teams. I got to know Wielgus through my daughter-in-law and her friends.
Chris Wielgus was an amazing role model for the women on her teams — isn’t that what is expected of a coach? I’ve been fortunate to have many of my daughter-in-law’s friends and fellow basketball players stay with me, have meals here and become friends. These are all amazing women who are successful in whatever they have chosen to pursue, either professionally or personally. And who was their role model? Chris Wielgus. They love her and have so much respect for her. How could someone who is so respected be treated so unfairly? Someone like Chris Wielgus is just who parents want to influence our daughters and granddaughters.
