White River Paper Merges With Swish Of Canada
White River Junction — A Canadian janitorial supply and cleaning equipment firm has acquired White River Paper Co., the companies announced last week.
The merger of Swish Maintenance Limited, based in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and White River Paper, located on Route 14 in Hartford, will triple the size of Swish’s janitorial supply, food service disposables and industrial packaging business in New England. The newly formed company will be known as Swish White River Ltd.
“We see this merger of two successful family businesses as a new opportunity,” said Mike Lyford, the president of White River Paper. “Both companies are committed to customer service excellence, making this a great fit between both companies,” Lyford said in a news release.
The merger compliments the companies’ product offerings and will allow them to expand their customer base, said Shane Mahoney, chief executive officer of Swish Maintenance, in the release. “This investment represents an important strategic opportunity to offer our customers a greater variety of options and adds to our capacity and geographic presence within the United States,” he said.
Established in 1881, White River Paper is the fourth oldest corporation in Vermont. It was one of Swish’s primary competitors in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
White River Paper’s fourth-generation owners, Mike and Jeff Lyford, and staff of 47 employees will join the newly formed company.
