Claremont Won’t Log Near Ridge Ave

Claremont — Residents living in the Ridge Avenue neighborhood will not have to worry about logging trucks using their streets after Department of Public Works Director Bruce Temple told the City Council Wednesday night he was not recommending the city sign a contract to have city-owned land on a section of Arrowhead mountain logged.

Residents opposed the plan at an August council meeting because the trucks would carry the logs through their neighborhood and they said the heavy loads would damage roads and properties. They urged the city to find another access route.

Temple said Wednesday night bringing them down the face of Arrowhead and out on to South Street would be more expensive and the sale was not advertised in that fashion.

“There are no other options that we feel are in the best interest of the city,” Temple said.
