U.S. Navy Veterans  Invited to Birthday Lunch in Grantham

Grantham — A luncheon celebrating the Navy’s 238th birthday is set for Oct. 16 at Bistro Nouveau in Grantham.

Capt. Lynne Blankenbeker will speak at the event, which is open to members and veterans of the US Navy. The cash bar will open at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon.

Blankenbeker, a registered nurse, served combat area tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. She is director for health policy and planning for the Chief of Navy Reserve at the Pentagon.

She was previously a division officer for the Neurosurgery Department in Iraq, administrative officer of the Naval Air Facility at Andrews Air Force Base, department head of the Navy hospital in Sigonella, Italy, and division officer of the main operating room at Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Her last assignment was with the Portsmouth Operational Health Support Unit, where she served as command awards officer and command mobilization officer.

She served two terms in the New Hampshire Legislature, where she was vice chairwoman of the State and Federal Relations Committee.

In 2011, she was named New Hampshire Woman of the Year.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Troy State College and a law degree from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord.

Lunch is $25.
