Claremont Man Killed in Crash
Claremont — One person died in a single-car accident early Sunday morning, police said.
Ryan Heino, 22, was declared dead at the scene from injuries he suffered after the 2002 Red Saab rolled over on Hanover Street, (Route 120) at the corner of the intersection with Barnes Street around 1 a.m. Heino was alone in the vehicle.
Police said when they arrived, the Saab was on its roof and Heino was trapped inside.
Police said the initial investigation indicates that Heino was traveling south when his vehicle drifted into the northbound lane, went off the road and rolled onto its left side and onto an old stone wall. Heino was not wearing a seat belt.
Stevens High School Principal Frank Sprague said that Heino graduated from the school several years ago, and remembers one feature above all else.
“He had a great smile,” Sprague said. “You’d catch him doing something and he’d give you that smile. As an administrator, I always had a soft spot for Ryan.”
The accident remains under investigation to determine whether speed and alcohol were factors.
