Dartmouth Student Pleads Not Guilty to Campus Rape

North Haverhill — A Dartmouth College student pleaded not guilty to seven counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault.

Parker Gilbert, 20, of London, has been accused of raping a female student inside her dorm room. Gilbert had an arraignment scheduled for Monday, but he filed a waiver for arraignment last week and pleaded not guilty.

Gilbert’s attorney, Cathy Green, of Manchester, declined to comment. Grafton County Attorney Lara Saffo also declined to comment.

Gilbert was indicted last month by the Grafton Superior Court grand jury on all seven counts. An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but a tool for prosecutors to continue with criminal cases.

One count of aggravated sexual assault carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Gilbert was arrested in May after a 19-year-old female victim filed a complaint that Gilbert allegedly entered her unlocked dorm room in the early hours of May 2. As a general practice, the Valley News does not identify victims of alleged sex crimes.

In May, Gilbert posted $75,000 bail, including $40,000 cash, after appearing in Lebanon Circuit Court. He was ordered to surrender his British passport.

Hanover Capt. Frank Moran, who is the acting Hanover police chief, could not be reached for comment on Monday.

Gilbert is living in New London, according to court documents. A man who answered the phone at the residence declined to comment.

Gilbert must remain in New Hampshire except to travel to Massachusetts and Vermont for medical and counseling appoints. One of Gilbert’s attorneys, George Ostler, is based in Norwich.

Gilbert is a member of Dartmouth’s Class of 2016 and has been a member of Dartmouth’s rugby team. Gilbert is not currently enrolled in classes at Dartmouth, and college spokesperson Justin Anderson has previously said that he cannot comment on whether Gilbert will be a student in the fall.
