Claremont’s T-Bird Fuel Bought, Leaves Market

Claremont — R.E. Hinkley, a home heating and cooling business, has bought T-Bird Fuel Co.

T-Bird is leaving the Claremont market, said the company’s president, James Robertson, who also owns Cheshire Oil in Keene, N.H.

“It just seemed like a good move on our part to leave the market up there,” Robertson said last week, adding that he chose Hinkley because it is a “good local company.”

“I would rather sell to him than somebody who is elsewhere.”

Hinkley’s president, Scott Hinkley, whose father started the business in 1967, said his company bought T-Bird’s list of about 1,000 customers but none of the company’s physical assets, which will be retained by Cheshire Oil or its convenience stores.

“We are looking at taking on their (five) employees because they are all good people,” Hinkley said.

The T-Bird office on Washington Street will close and all business will be conducted from Hinkley’s offices on Lane Ridge Road.

Hinkley said his company has reached out T-Bird’s customers explaining the purchase.

“Except for some new faces and new trucks, nothing will really change,” said Hinkley.
