Crowd Funding Supports Five Area River Projects

Pomfret — Five river restoration projects in New Hampshire and Vermont have received a total of $7,550 in donations through CleanWaterFuture.org, a website that links conservation projects with prospective donors.

All of the work will take place in the Connecticut River watershed.

The Vermont projects are on Broad Brook in Sharon, the White River in South Royalton and Stony Brook in Stockbridge.

Sponsored by White River Partnership, they will focus on restoring streamside vegetation and fish passage at sites damaged by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.

The New Hampshire projects, on Mink Brook in Etna and the main stem of the Connecticut River in Piermont, are designed to improve water quality and control invasive species. They are sponsored by the Connecticut River Watershed Council, which administers Clean Water Future.

Individual donations for the projects averaged $60. The Greater Upper Valley chapter of Trout Unlimited invested between $500 and $1,000 in each project.
