Man Charged in Claremont Crash That Killed Windsor Woman
Claremont — A 29-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested yesterday and charged with negligent homicide in the death of a Windsor woman following a head-on collision over the weekend.
Luke Garlinger, a Mansfield, Mass., resident, will be arraigned this morning at Claremont Circuit Court, according to a news release from Claremont police.
Garlinger was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck east on Routes 12/103 early Sunday morning when he allegedly crossed a double yellow line and collided with a westbound Pontiac minivan driven by 42-year-old Shellie Blaisdell, police said.
Blaisdell died following the accident, and a 13-year-old boy in her vehicle was seriously injured and taken to Valley Regional Hospital.
A news release from Claremont Police Chief Alexander Scott yesterday said “both speed and alcohol were factors in the accident,” which took place west of the Tractor Supply Store on Route 12/103, and that Garlinger was arrested on a charge of negligent homicide.
The speed limit on that portion of Main Street is 35 mph, and Claremont police said Garlinger was driving “well in excess of the posted speed limit.”
Garlinger was also hospitalized following the crash, but is now being held at the Sullivan County House of Corrections in Unity pending his arraignment.
Police said the boy in Blaisdell’s minivan is no longer hospitalized and is “recovering at home.”
