Economic Development Job Nixed in Woodstock
Woodstock — Residents yesterday voted down a $50,000 proposal to hire a part-time economic development coordinator, 520-361. All other articles on yesterday’s Australian ballot passed.
By a 707-186 tally, residents voted in favor of instructing federal and state lawmakers to ban assault weapons, require criminal background checks and make gun trafficking a federal crime. They also voted, 414-195, to approve the $11.3 million Woodstock Union High School district budget for the school year beginning July 1. It also passed in Barnard, 105-41, but Bridgewater voted 42-35 against it.
In other spending, voters cast ballots in favor of using $50,000 for operation and maintenance costs of the Norman Williams Public Library, as well as appropriating $32,000 for the Pentangle Council on the Arts — both extra funding on top of the organizations’ base budgets.
On Saturday, residents approved a $4.1 million town operating budget and $60,000 for a digital projection system to show movies and for streaming live performances or webcasts.
