Fly-Fishing Contest Will Benefit White River

South Royalton — A catch and release fly-fishing tournament on May 30 and 31 will raise money for local conservation efforts.

The White River Open, sponsored by the Greater Upper Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, is a fly-only, trout-only tournament.

The proceeds will support habitat and river restoration projects on the White.

“Our aim is to have almost every competitor walk away with something, and a few lucky folks will win some really nice prizes,” event organizers said in a recent news release.

Prizes worth more than $2000 have been donated, “with more on the way.”

The event will open with a meeting on May 30 at 6 p.m. on the South Royalton green.

The fishing will take place the next day, from sun-up to 5:30 p.m. Local restaurants are offering special dinner deals for participants on May 31, following the tournament.

Registration is $20 in advance. To register, email WRPFFT@gmail.com.
