Sunapee Man’s Body Found

Hartford — The town’s fire department recovered a body from the North Hartland Dam Wednesday afternoon.

Police identified the body as that of 42-year-old Michael J. Hayward Jr., a Sunapee resident who had been missing since police found his vehicle parked at the Quechee Gorge on Feb. 7.

In February, Hartford Deputy Chief of Police Brad Vail said Hayward’s actions and manner in the days before his disappearance raised the possibility of suicide. No note was found in Hayward’s vehicle and police found no signs of foul play.

The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is being performed, Vail said in a news release Wednesday.

Hayward was last seen alive in Enfield, according to a missing person flyer from his family.
