East Corinth Tow-a-Thon Sets Record

  • Celia, 3, hitches a ride up Northeast Slopes with her dad Colin during a tow-a-thon in East Corinth, Vt., on Saturday, January 11, 2014. The tow-a-thon set a record for the most people towed by a rope tow in one hour by bring 188 people up to the top during that time. "If you're an adult or a bigger rider and you see a kid coming along, you often will cut right in front of them. You're not trying to be rude, you're just wanting to help them up. The first one going up has to hold the weight of the rope up, which is quite a lot of work, and if you go in front of someone you can make it easier for that kid, so they can make it to the top too," said board member Genevieve Faherty. The tow-a-thon was the ski area's attempt to set a record for the most people towed by a rope tow in one hour. "The goal today was to follow up our world's fastest rope tow record with the world's highest-capacity uphill rope-tow record. And we set that today with 188 in one hour. We challenge anybody else with a rope tow at least a thousand feet long to match that record if they can," said board member Wade Pierson. (Valley News - Elijah Nouvelage)
