STAFF REPORT

It appears nothing this winter is getting in the way of the Stevens High girls basketball team, which bumped its early season record up to 4-0 with a 46-26 win over archrival Newport on Monday night at Carr Gymnasium in Claremont.

The Cardinals added the Tigers to a list of victims that has included Conant, Fall Mountain and Mascoma to date. The opening win over Conant on Dec. 8 was particularly noteworthy, given the Orioles have been in the NHIAA Division III championship game six of the last seven years, falling in the last two. Stevens earned a share of the top spot in the D-III standings with Hopkinton (4-0) as a result of Monday’s win, with a trip to White Mountains on tap for Wednesday.

Newport (0-3) travels to Fall Mountain on Thursday.
