Springfield, Vt.
Collin Campbell is apparently more than comfortable in that role.
Campbell, a senior midfielder, matched his goals total from last season in Friday’s season opener, netting a hat trick and an assist in the Wasps’ 5-0 win at Springfield.
Campbell scored on a feed from Cullen McCarthy in the first half, then deposited two more unassisted in the second half as Woodstock blew the game open following a 1-0 halftime advantage.
Campbell — who had six points all of last season — added an assist on Will Vicar’s goal before Patrick Bald scored on a penalty kick for the Wasps.
Campbell will apparently be helping plenty to help compensate for the graduation losses of Alex Crompton (18 goals, nine assists—27 points) and Curran MacDonald (19-6—15) from last year’s 15-3 Woodstock unit that reached the Vermont Division II final.
Freshman keeper Steven Bianchi made one save against the Cosmos.

The O’s just missed taking the lead three minutes later when a Zoe Barton shot glanced high off the crossbar.

Down 19-13 at halftime, Hanover received the second half kickoff and promptly drove down the field for a game-tying touchdown capped by a Moises Celaya extra point to lead 20-19. Hanover drove immediately down the field to score another touchdown and take control of the game.

Woodstock
“We started really flat and we weren’t playing very physical. (U-32) came out ready to go and fired up and put together some drives on us,” Woodstock coach Ramsey Worrell said.
Senior Ezra Astbury got the party started in the second half with a 55-yard touchdown run to shift momentum to the hosts.
“That really energized the team. We were able to carry that energy throughout the second half,” Worrell said.
Running back Bill Wood was a big part of the offensive attack in the second half and also had a touchdown run. Dan Robinson also ran the ball well. Hunter Balch capped the scoring with a 25-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Worrell praised the overall defensive effort, highlighted by a key third-down sack by senior Cole Westcott to stifle a U-32 drive.
“They chewed up the clock on us in the first half. It’s two teams that like to run the ball and it just moved quickly on us. All in all, the defense played pretty good and we finally got going offensively in the third quarter,” Worrell said.
