Dinner Will Support Family’s Travel to Disease Conference
Hartford — A spaghetti dinner fundraiser to help an ailing young girl and her family attend a conference about her condition in Bloomingdale, Ill., is set for Friday, from 5-7 p.m., at Valley Bible Church, 851 Fairview Terrace.
Emma Wallace, of W hite River Junction, has Aicardi syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects only about 800 children in the country. The syndrome generally includes seizures, lesions of the retina, developmental issues and brain abnormalities, including limited communication between the two sides of the brain.
Emma, 7, is wheelchair-bound and mentally delayed and requires round-the-clock care. The three-day conference, sponsored by the Aicardi Syndrome Foundation, brings families together to learn about the disorder, help each other manage the challenge, and “spend time with people who understand,” Emma’s mother, Alison Wallace, said in a recent news release.
The cost of the dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and under. For more information, call 802-299-1759 or 802-291-4162.
