Norwich — Maile McLane Carter and Daniel James Madigan were married on Aug. 25, 2012.
The wedding took place at an outdoor ceremony in the chapel of Camp Onaway on Newfound Lake in Hebron, N.H. The ceremony was presided over by Milton Frye, a friend of the bride’s family, and Denis Timko, a friend of the bridegroom’s family.
After canoeing from the ceremony down the lake to the McLane family summer home, the bride and bridegroom joined the wedding party and the guests at a reception that followed at Camp Pasquaney.
The bride was escorted by her father. Bridesmaids included her three sisters, Sasha, Ashley and Laurel Carter, the bridegroom’s sisters, Marissa and Kelly Madigan, and Kate Harris, Brittany Beale and Lynda Tricarico. Groomsmen included the groom’s brother-in-law, Kevin Keane, and Steve Smith, Luis Rodriguez, Matt Sweeney, Patrick Pfeiffer, Black Johnson, Neel Shah and Bryan Thomas. The ring bearer was the couple’s beloved dog, Petey.
The bride is the daughter of Peter and Debbie Carter, of Norwich. She attended Marion Cross School and Hanover High School and graduated from Milton (Mass.) Academy in 2002. She received a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 2006, with a major in Spanish and a minor in education. This spring she was awarded a master’s degree in school leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is working for Reading Partners, a nonprofit organization that works with the San Francisco and Oakland public school systems.
The bridegroom is the son of Patricia Madigan Yates and James Yates, of Hempstead, N.Y. and the late James D. Madigan. He is a 2001 graduate of Garden City High School and a 2005 graduate of Dartmouth College, where he earned a degree in biology. He is pursuing a doctorate in marine biology at Stanford University.
The couple live in Oakland, Calif. They plan to honeymoon in Africa.
