60th Anniversary: Richard and Pat Rubacka

Hanover — Richard and Pat Rubacka, of Hanover, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 23, 2013.

Richard was born in Springfield, Vt. Pat was born in Guildford, Surrey, England.

They met at the Hartness House in Springfield. Formerly the private residence of Vermont Gov. James Hartness, Hartness House became a hotel and restaurant after the governor’s death. Richard was serving a high school apprenticeship in the kitchen and Pat was working in the dining room, having just journeyed from England to Vermont at the age of 17. They were married on May 23, 1953 at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield.

Richard attended the Culinary Institute of America on the GI Bill and cooked in several restaurants before taking on a position at Dartmouth Dining Association, where he retired as executive chef after 38 years of employment. Pat worked for several area businesses, including Landers Restaurant and Rich’s Department Store, before retiring in 1995.

Their children are Paul Rubacka, of Manlius, N.Y., and Patricia (Mitofsky) Tedesco, of Woodbury, Vt. Rubacka has a wife, Kristen, and Tedesco has a husband, R. L. “Ted” Tedesco. They also have seven grandchildren: Sam and Jack Rubacka; Ryan, Kyle, and Parker Mitofsky; and James and Jennifer Tedesco.
