Hanover’s Williamson Misses Cut at Southern Am

The Woodlands, Texas — Hanover native Peter Williamson’s defense of his Southern Amateur championship has come to a premature end.

The Hanover High and Dartmouth College graduate failed in his bid to make the cut at the Southern Am on Thursday at The Club at Carlton Woods. Williamson shot rounds of 73-75—148 and missed the projected cut by two strokes.

A slow start to the second round doomed Williamson’s bid. The three-time Ivy League player of the year bogeyed five of his first eight holes, including four in succession, and a 2-under-par conclusion wasn’t enough to bridge the gap.

Williamson gets right back to action early next week at the Porter Cup in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Harter Wins VSWGA Seniors

Orleans, Vt. — Mari Harter made the most of the home-course advantage, shooting 81-81—162 to win the Vermont State Women’s Golf Association’s Ruth Raymond Jones Memorial Senior Championship on Thursday at Orleans Country Club.

Harter won by three strokes over St. Johnsbury’s Sue Bagley, who used a second-round 79 — the best score of the day — to contend.

Burlington’s Rhonda Colvard (168) took third. Ekwanok’s Margie Kaat, tied for second after Wednesday’s opening round, was forced to withdraw after breaking her wrist during first-round play.

Green Mountain National’s Trish Wade had the best result by a golfer from an Upper Valley course, shooting 86-87—173 to tie for seventh place. Lake Morey’s Mickey Potwin tied for 29th at 183 (92-91).
