Letter: Questionable News Judgment

To the Editor:

I was disappointed to learn that the Valley News limited its coverage of an Upper Valley teacher who received recognition in the Herff Jones Teacher Shout Outs contest to an item in the “School Notes” column. An outstanding teacher from a local school was entered into the contest by students and parents, and was one of 10 teachers nationwide to win the contest. When contacted about the story, a staff member at the Valley News stated it wasn’t something the newspaper would do a full story about.

It’s amazing to me that this same newspaper considers chicken poop and itchy nipples as newsworthy, but the recognition of a local teacher here in the Upper Valley is not. It’s a mad-mad world (or a sad-sad world) when the making of chicken diapers surpasses the recognition of a wonderful teacher.
