75th Anniversary: Carolyn and Sidney Cadwallader

Hanover — Carolyn and Sidney Cadwallader II, of Newtown, Pa., celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on June 18, 2013.

Carolyn was born in Maplewood, N.J. Sidney was born in Yardley, Pa.

They met at Swarthmore College, from which they both graduated in 1936. Sid attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Carol attended the Berkeley School.

They were married at Prospect Presbyterian Church in Maplewood, N.J. in 1938. While Sidney did his alternative service as a conscientious objector during World War II, the couple lived in Langhorne, Pa., then moved to Yardley, where Carol joined Sid as a member of Yardley Friends Meeting, which has served as their spiritual home ever since. They moved to Pennswood Village, a Quaker retirement community in Newtown, Pa., in 1993. Carol and Sid have been active residents of the various communities where they have lived. To this day, they remain engaged in many civic organizations of the Lower Bucks County region.

The couple’s children, and their spouses, are: Len (and Mary Ann) Cadwallader of Hanover; Tom (and Katherine) Cadwallader, of Yardley, Pa.; and Betsy (and Terry Christensen) Cadwallader, of Bensalem, Pa. They also have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One daughter, Lyn Bannerman, died in 1990. Lyn’s husband, Bill Bannerman, and his wife, Christine, remain an important part of the family.
