Veterans, Parades Planned in Upper Valley to Mark Memorial Day

This Memorial Day weekend, Upper Valley residents can watch a parade, take a tour and see a scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Here are some of the events taking shape for the weekend and beyond:

Today

∎ American Veterans Traveling Tribute and Traveling Wall, open 24 hours, North Haverhill Fairgrounds on Route 10. Tributes to American veterans include the Vietnam War Memorial Traveling Wall.

∎ Windsor Memorial Day activities include a parade at 10 a.m., Constitution Common. Veterans, Reservists, Guard Members and other active military personnel who want to participate in the parade should arrive at 9:30 a.m.

∎ Veterans Memorial Service for Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Island X-1, Vermont, Vermont Veterans Cemetery, 1 p.m., 487 Furnace Road, Randolph Center.

Tomorrow

∎ American Veterans Traveling Tribute and Traveling Wall, open 24 hours, North Haverhill Fairgrounds on Route 10. Tributes to American veterans include the Vietnam War Memorial Traveling Wall.

∎ Norwich Memorial Day parade sponsored by American Legion Post 8 will honor two brothers killed in WWII, noon, 228 Beaver Meadow Road.

Monday May 27

∎ American Veterans Traveling Tribute and Traveling Wall, 24 hours a day, North Haverhill Fairgrounds on Route 10. Tributes to American veterans include the Vietnam War Memorial Traveling Wall.

∎ Tunbridge Memorial Day activities include a plant, book and bake sale on parish house lawn from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.; memorial service, 11 a.m., town hall; and parade, 11:40 a.m.

∎ Chelsea Memorial Day parade and ceremony, 10 a.m., north common, Route 110.

∎ Enfield Memorial Day activities include parade down Main Street and Route 4, 10 a.m.; and military artifacts display, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Community Building, Route 4.

∎ Lebanon Memorial Day activities include parade, 11 a.m., Hanover Street; Soldiers Memorial Building Open House, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; and guided tours of Marion Carter House, 10-11 a.m. and noon-2 p.m.

∎ Re-dedication of the newly restored Wilder War Memorial, followed by an ice cream social. 1 p.m., Wilder Club and Library, 78 Norwich Ave., Wilder.

Thursday May 30

∎ Memorial Day Honor services in Hartford, 10:30 a.m., Maple Street Cemetery, Veterans Park and Lehman Bridge. Services at the VA Medical Center begin at noon.

∎ State Memorial Day Ceremony with a parade of honor guards and speeches by Lt. Gov. Phil Scott and Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Steven Cray. 3 p.m., Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center.

Saturday June 1

∎ Veterans Tribute with children’s choir, color guard and a speech by Richard W. Schneider, president of Norwich University. 5-6:30 p.m., Joseph Smith Birthplace, 357 LDS Lane, South Royalton.
