Entertainment Highlights: New Year’s Eve Party Options Range From Fancy To No-Frills

Whether your tastes are upscale, laidback or somewhere in between, New Year’s Eve in the Upper Valley has a little something to offer everyone.

Tickets are still available for the Starline Rhythm Boys’ New Year’s Eve appearance at the Tunbridge Town Hall, which doubles as this month’s Tunbridge Shindig performance. Purchase tickets for the 9 p.m. show at www.shindigsvt.com.

Over at Salt hill Pub in Lebanon, dance band Dr. Burma kicks off their 25th year of performing on New Year’s Eve with a 9 p.m. set. The band will perform their signature funk-soul dance music and the evening will include a late-night buffet and midnight champagne toast ($10).

A Great Gatsby-esque celebration awaits revelers at Windsor’s Juniper Hill Inn on Monday evening. The black-tie/period clothing evening includes dinner, dancing music from Gerry Grimo and the East Bay Orchestra, starting at 8 p.m., followed by a dessert buffet and a champagne toast at midnight ($95-$175 per person; call 802-674-5273 for reservations).

Across the river, Home Hill Inn in Plainfield will celebrate the New Year with music from Mo’Combo starting at 7:30 p.m. and continuing through midnight with a champagne toast. Guests also have the option of a seven-course dinner and wine pairings ($25-$75; call 603-675-5220 for reservations).

For New Year’s Eve visitors to the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, there will be music from the six-piece band A House on Fire and DJ Rick Davis. At One Mile West in Sunapee, family band The Moores will play dance music for New Year’s, starting at 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, hardworking Upper Valley band About Gladys will be the star attraction at Tupelo Music Hall’s New Year’s Eve Celebration, playing blues and funky dance tunes. Doors open at the White River Junction venue at 7 p.m., a dinner buffet begins at 8, and the band performs at 9 ($45 per person).

Down the street, the White River Junction VFW Hall will be filled with the sounds of The Reverbs starting at 8 ($5, VFW members; $6, non-members).

Also closing out 2012 in White River Junction are The Conniption Fits, who play a 9 p.m. show at Shenanigans.

The New Year’s Eve celebration at Salt hill Pub in Newport features an appearance by the Road Trash Band, who will provide classic rock and hard-edged country numbers starting at 9 p.m.

The Saturday night contradance series at Tracy Hall in Norwich will include a special New Year’s Eve installment. Northern Spy will provide the music, with Ruth Sylvester calling. Be sure to bring clean-soled shoes and a potluck snack for the dance, which begins at 8 p.m. ($10-$15).

In Hanover, jazz vocalist Leila Percy joins pianist Bob Merrill for a New Year’s Eve performance of jazz standards at Canoe Club in Hanover, starting at 7. And in Claremont, DJ Mr. Big will spin dance tunes at New Socials Bar and Grill, starting at 8:30 and culminating in a champagne toast at midnight.

Best Bets

Recycled Percussion has come a long way from its first show at a Goffstown (N.H.) High School talent show in the mid-90s. The group, which makes rhythmic beats by drumming on every possible surface, has toured nationally for over a decade, and gained even greater exposure when they placed third on the TV show America’s Got Talent. The group will take a vacation this week from its current performance schedule at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas for a series of New Hampshire shows, including an appearance at the Claremont Opera House at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Claremont Opera House ($23, advance; $25, day of show).

∎ Guitarist and songwriter Popa Chubby brings his unique take on the blues to Tupelo Music Hall in White River Junction, where he’ll perform a show at 7 p.m. Saturday ($20).

Dance Music

DJ Shar4 hosts a “Winter Wonderland” dance party at Salt hill Pub in Lebanon, starting tomorrow night at 10.

∎ New Hampshire’s own DJ Flanz, host of the syndicated Nocturnal Nightlife DJ show, brings the “Club 188” dance party to Tupelo Music Hall in White River Junction at 10 p.m. Saturday, following Popa Chubby’s blues show at the venue ($5).

∎ The Albany, N.Y., pop duo Sirsy has developed a steady Upper Valley following over the past few years, and the group returns to Salt hill Pub in Lebanon for a 9 p.m. show Saturday.

∎ Meanwhile, Salt hill in Newport will branch out and offer a session of Irish traditional music led by Randy Miller and Roger Kahle at 9 p.m. tomorrow. The following evening, the pub hosts the Americana and bluegrass band JukeJoynt at 9 p.m.

∎ Tod Moses of Ya Know, That Band plays a solo acoustic show at Salt hill Pub in Hanover at 9 p.m. tomorrow. Saturday night, the pub has blues music from Arthur James at 9.

∎ Carlos Ocasio of Frydaddy leads another group, Roomba Rhumba, in a night of funk and soul music at Skunk Hollow Tavern in Hartland tomorrow at 9.
