Letter: Attention, Medicare Recipients

To the Editor:

This is the season for open enrollment in many health insurance plans. Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D plans will conclude on Dec. 7. Changes to Medicare prescription drug coverage or Medicare health plans must be made during this period.

There are 27 drug plan options available to residents of Grafton County. It is more important than ever for Medicare beneficiaries to compare their current plans and update any medication changes made in the past year. Just one change in drug or dosage can change the costs to the beneficiary, and many plans are either increasing premiums or changing formularies and co-pays.

It is important for people enrolled in Medicare to read the “Annual Notice of Change” sent from their current drug or advantage plan. Individuals can compare plans by visiting and following the link to “Find and Compare Drug and Health Plans” or by calling Medicare at 1-800-633-4227, ServiceLink in New Hampshire at 1-866-634-9412 or the Vermont Senior Helpline at 1-800-642-5119.

ServiceLink offices have also received grant funding to hire and train in-person assisters for the new health insurance marketplace. If you would like help understanding the health insurance options available through the Affordable Care Act, we are ready to walk you through the options.
