Letter: Embarrassing Times for Lebanon

To the Editor:

I would like to applaud the Valley News for focusing the discussion regarding the athletic director position for Lebanon High. There are many questions that need to be answered. School Board members and administrators are public officials who answer to the people. The evidence would suggest these meetings are conducted in private session not because of any personnel decisions but because the truth would be embarrassing to the people in power. This issue reaches far beyond who is in charge of sports at Lebanon High.

Multiple sporting events took place at Lebanon High School on Friday afternoon (with apparently no one in charge). The chatter included rumors and questions that taxpayers deserve straightforward answers to.

Questions that need to be answered:

∎ Who leaked all this information from a confidential process? Why is this process confidential?

∎ Was the top choice of the committee not brought forward by the superintendent and why?

∎ Was there an agreement to hire Barrett Williams and for Sharon Elementary to hire a Lebanon principal whose position had been eliminated?

I would applaud Barrett Williams; he has been candid in what has become a very embarrassing incident for the Lebanon community. He probably is counting his blessings.
