Letter: Support Mental Health Courts
To the Editor:
The Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society’s community partners for September is the Advocates for Grafton County Mental Health Court. We are a nonprofit organization that promotes the mental health courts in Grafton County that serve as an alternative to the traditional criminal justice system for individuals with mental illness. Three mental health courts operate in the county — in Lebanon, Littleton and Plymouth. New Hampshire Halls of Hope is the local mental health court in Lebanon. It is administered through the Lebanon District Court, with mental health services provided by West Central Behavioral Health.
Halls of Hope’s goals are to promote prompt intervention, education, treatment and recovery to improve the quality of an individual’s life, reduce recidivism and maintain community safety. This is achieved through a collaborative process that includes mental health providers, members of the criminal justice system, family members and community stakeholders. So when you shop at any of the Co-op’s three food stores in Hanover, Lebanon and White River Junction, you will see the donation containers at each register. Please help support our efforts.
