Leita Stacy Benoit

Venice, Fla. — Leita Stacy Benoit, formerly of Venice, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the age of 89.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Tom Miller of Wellesley, Mass., Genie and Ballard Campbell of Portland, Maine, her son, Bo Benoit, her daughter and son-in-law, Jolie Benoit and John Henry of Rochester, Mass., Willie and Liam Patterson of Natick, Mass. and her youngest daughter, Jenny LaVoie of Sunapee, N.H. Leita was blessed with 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, Robert McCarroll of Springfield, Mass.

Leita was born to parents Rhea and Bernard Stacy of West Springfield, Mass. on Oct. 11, 1923. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Reita McCarroll and older brother, Bernard “Junior” Stacy. Leita and ex-husband George Benoit (deceased) raised their six children in Weston, Mass. During that time Leita proudly purchased a comfortable summer cottage in Sunapee, N.H. After successfully raising her six children and retiring from Dexter School she moved to Venice, Fla. and lived out her dream of sea and sun.

Leita was a free spirit whose passion was the outdoors. She was an excellent and avid tennis player and continued to play tennis into her 80’s. Leita also actively took part in, skiing, swimming and dancing. She enjoyed the beach, theatre, opera, books, music and art with a fine eye for decorating and antiquing. Throughout her life Leita shared each and every one of these passions with her children who were closest to her heart.

On July 29, 2013, a private family burial service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield, Mass. At 2 p.m. a celebration of Leita’s life will follow at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, Bolyston, Mass. Directions can be found on the website www.towerhillbg.org.
