Lebanon, N.H. — Jeanne Baumgartner, 90, died peacefully early Friday morning on June 28th at Harvest Hill in Lebanon, N.H. Jeanne was born in 1922 and grew up in Little Falls, N.J. on her father’s dairy farm. Jeanne graduated Montclair HS and Katherine Gibbs, before marrying John Baumgartner in 1947 after he returned from his war service in the Pacific. Jeanne and John had two children, Peter J Baumgartner of Carlisle, Mass. and Karen J Baumgartner of Canaan, N.H.
After WWII John worked for Exxon in New York City. In 1958 he and his family were transferred to England where they would live for many years. Jeanne treasured their years living in London and Surrey.
Jeanne and John moved to the Upper Valley after retiring, residing first in Hanover, N.H., and later in Norwich, Vt. Their activities included volunteer work for the Blood Bank, DHMC and the Howe library and lots of golf, walking and swimming. After John’s death in 2005, Jeanne spent much of her time with her children, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
In 2008 Jeanne left Norwich to join the community at Harvest Hill. She received four years of wonderful care at the Elizabeth S. Hughes Care Unit for which her family is very grateful.
The family will hold a private service later in July around the time of Jeanne’s birthday.
