Letter: Prouty Links Art and Healing

To the Editor:

On July 13, thousands of participants, volunteers and donors will unite in a regional effort to support cancer research and patient services at Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Last year, more than $2.5 million was raised, almost all of which remains local. Of course, we hope to top that number this year. This event, The Prouty, brings together cyclists, walkers, rowers and golfers who commit to raising money for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center.

This will be the sixth year that The Prouty will partner with a celebrated artist who donates a work of art to the event. Ben Frank Moss is the 2013 Pinnacle Artist and is considered one of the most influential and highly regarded landscape painters working today. He has donated Mount Promise, a stunning and richly textured oil painting. A limited edition of signed and numbered prints will be awarded to the event’s top fundraisers. However, everyone can view the work and be inspired by its beauty. Moss’ work and donation is especially poignant knowing that he is a recent patient of Norris Cotton whose cancer is in remission. He knows firsthand of the promise brought by research.

This work will be on display through mid-July at the following locations: the Norwich Inn; in Hanover at Simon Pearce, South Street Hotel, Mascoma Bank and the Ledyard Bank; in Lebanon at the Courtyard Marriott and AVA Gallery; the Lyme Inn; and Lake Sunapee Bank in Newport, N.H.

There is great synchronicity between art and science and healing. This is beautifully conveyed in Mount Promise. We hope you are able to see this work and to consider participating in The Prouty.
