Letter: Paying for Bloated Bureaucracy

To the Editor:

I believe the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people. Would it have made a difference if the IRS employees partying in Los Angles and elsewhere would have needed to explain their excessive spending to their neighbors? I would like to think so. I would like to think that they would have been more responsive and responsible.

Our government at many levels has become so bloated that it is impossible to manage effectively. This is also why I believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is the one that governs least. It is past time for our state and federal leaders to take a hard look at how we can decrease the size and scope of our governments and start making reductions rather than asking for more of our tax dollars to hire more people.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have more of our hard-earned money to spend rather than handing it over to more bloated bureaucracies to spend for us? Then employers and business owners would have more money to expand their companies, hire more people and grow the economy.
