Letter: The Attack on Social Security

To the Editor:

It’s quite ironic that corporations are legally required to fund their pension plans and that the U.S. Postal Service must also fund pensions, but the federal government can use any or all Social Security payments for any purpose deemed necessary.

What is wrong with this scenario? Many folks, including my mother and other senior citizens, will suffer greatly. Anyone on a fixed income who relies on Social Security to survive will be at risk. How can attacking the Social Security benefit help the economy? What is wrong with the members of Congress who push this ideology? And shame on the president for caving!
