Letter: Discrimination in Our Backyard
To the Editor:
This is not one of those silly letters intended to try to convince Valley News readers about my views on world peace or some pressing national issue such as gay marriage. Rather, I want to alert my fellow Upper Valley residents about a serious example of discrimination right in our own backyard — the city of Lebanon’s Top Dog Contest.
As a Lebanon business owner, I recently tried to enter my cat and was told, “No, the contest is open only to Lebanon dog owners.” Quite frankly I am hurt by a government-sponsored “contest” that doesn’t allow any animal to participate. I’m also shocked that Jim Kenyon hasn’t picked up on this egregious discrimination against Upper Valley cats. I am asking all cat owners to picket outside City Hall. Perhaps if we meow loudly enough, our voices will be heard.
