Margaret Griffin Mitchell
Lebanon, N.H. — Margaret Elizabeth Griffin Mitchell, 97, died Feb. 4, 2013, in Lebanon, N.H. She was born Sept. 3, 1915, in Lubec, Maine.
She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Mitchell Fedchenko of Lebanon; grandchildren, Wendy Ashton and husband George of Lebanon, Joel Fedchenko and his wife Robin of Springfield, Vt., Aimee Dunham and her husband Paul of Enfield, N.H., Andrea Slayton and her husband of Springfield, N.H., Richard Donovan and his partner Laura Marles of Biddeford, Maine, Vickie Laughlin and her husband Dwight of Nashville, Tenn., and Jennifer Donovan of South Portland, Maine. She had great-grandchildren, Jason Trottier and his partner Jennifer Polyot of Dover, N.H., Christine Trottier and her partner Bradford Dudley of South Berwick, Maine; Sarah Trottier and her partner Ryan Hill of West Lebanon, N.H.; Miranda Fedchenko and her partner Robert Bresnick of Peru, Vt.; Paul Fedchenko of Springfield, Vt.; and Sawyer Slayton and Brayden Slayton of Springfield, N.H. She had great-great-grandchildren Hannah Trottier of Manchester, N.H., Averi Dudley of South Berwick, Maine, and Layne Hill of West Lebanon, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews.
She outlived her daughter Alberta Mitchell Donovan and her son-in-law Richard Murray Donovan; her parents William and Ethel Ellingwood Griffin; her siblings Tillie Griffin Grundy and Joe Grundy, Malcolm Griffin and Muriel Whitney Griffin, Walter Griffin and Felicia Sekulsky Griffin, Harold Griffin and Marjorie Griffin Griffin, and Ethel Degrasse Presby Dow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family moved from Maine to New York and she graduated from Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was employed by the N.Y. Police Dept. registering aliens during WW II. Later, back in Maine, she married Albert W. Mitchell on May 18, 1945. She worked for Sears Roebuck, and for Casco Bank in Portland, Maine. The moved to Standish, Maine, and they both worked for Sylvania. Upon retirement, they spent summers at their camp in Upton, Maine, and their winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. She worked at one time for the St. Petersburg Times, and was a member of the Salvation Army Home League. Her husband Albert died Aug. 26, 1977, in Florida. Later she became the companion of Irving F. Fogwill, also of Upton, Maine and Florida. He passed away Oct. 22, 2010, in St. Petersburg. She moved to Lebanon, N.H., where she had a daughter and family members.
She will be interred in Brooklawn Cemetery in South Portland, Maine with her husband, Albert Mitchell, in the summer.
