Letter: ‘Race’ Is Worth Seeing
To the Editor:
I just had the privilege of seeing Race by David Mamet performed by Northern Stage. I thought the acting and production were splendid. I had been warned that Mamet was an “equal opportunity offender,” but found the script lively, well-written and very well performed by all four principals. Yes, it is an uncomfortable subject, but to criticize Mamet for not “solving” the race issue, as was proposed by Katie Beth Ryan’s review, is unfair (“Mamet’s ‘Race’: What’s Next?” March 14). He raised the issues and showed how all of us have prejudices and in-built assumptions. It is a play well performed, very well written and well worth seeing.
