Robert E. Chagnon

Lebanon, N.H. — Robert E. “Doc” Chagnon of Lebanon passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, after a brief illness. Born in Somerville, Mass. on Oct. 23, 1941, to Robert Chagnon and Marion MacKinnon, he attended Arlington (Mass.) High School and joined the USAF in 1960.

He served on the Presidential Medical Honor Guard to President John F. Kennedy in 1963, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant, was twice awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Air Force Longevity Service Award before his retirement from the Air National Guard in 1992.

He was American Legion Past District 5 Commander and recently member of the Jeffrey S. Holmes Post 84 in White River Jct., Vt., as well as children and youth chairman for the Dept. of Vermont.

He is survived by his son, James R. Chagnon; his close friend and companion, Carol Tucker, her children and grandchildren; as well as the many others who benefited by knowing this very generous man.

Committal service will be held at the N.H. State Veteran’s Cemetery, Boscawen, N.H. at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Bob be made to the Dept. of Vermont Legion Headquarters, PO Box 396, Montpelier, VT 05601, to support Camp Ta/Kum/Ta, a program to help youth cancer patients which was a project close to his heart.
