Letter: Guns and Freedom
To the Editor:
Regarding the Jan. 28 editorial, “A Loose Cannon,” many recent articles about the Second Amendment, the president’s proposed new gun laws and discussions about repealing the Stand Your Ground law here in New Hampshire, there is much talk about “freedom.”
To me, freedom isn’t being able to carry a gun with you everywhere you go. Freedom is living in a place where you don’t have to carry a gun. Guns do not make you safer. Guns are not freedom. Guns are chains.
I think it would be worthwhile for all your readers to think about freedom, how they define it and what it means to them — then think again about where they stand on the gun control issue, and speak up and make themselves heard to their representatives in Congress.
