Letter: The Blessedness of Life
To the Editor:
I have seen a lot of responses to Margaret Drye’s Jan. 20 commentary on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. I probably missed a few, but in all honesty, and to howls of protest I am sure, I would like to say I am grateful that Roe v. Wade took as long as it did. You see, my birth mother had spina bifida. I cannot imagine what an ordeal nine months of pregnancy must have been for her. I am truly sorry for whatever pain I put her through. Abortion was not an option for her. Adoption was, however. I am grateful for having experienced a great childhood, a fantastic marriage, the birth of three healthy children and, now, one grandchild. I have had a very blessed life and at the 55-year mark, I would just like to say that I am a person, not a decision.
