A Rhode Island man has been arrested and authorities here expect to charge him with last week’s robbery of People’s United Bank on Route 4, police announced yesterday.

Also yesterday, a Sharon man who was arrested last Friday pleaded not guilty in Windsor Superior Court to serving as an accomplice to the heist.

Joseph G. Petracca, 46, of Providence, R.I., was arrested in his home state on Sunday and charged with robbing two banks there in recent weeks, before allegedly traveling to the Upper Valley and robbing the White River Junction bank of more than $6,000. Petracca was being held in jail in Rhode Island yesterday, and Hartford police said they are seeking an extraditable arrest warrant to bring Petracca to Vermont to be arraigned on charges here.

Rhode Island police seized evidence at Petracca’s home connecting him to all three robberies, Hartford police said.

Meanwhile, John T. Fenley, 50, of Sharon, pleaded not guilty to a charge of aiding in the commission of an assault and robbery during a court appearance yesterday in White River Junction. Authorities said Fenley admitted to his role in the robbery and provided a detailed description of his efforts to help Petracca.
