John J. Magnus

White River Junction, Vt. — John J. Magnus, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction.

He was born April 23, 1929, in the Bronx, N.Y., the son of Samuel and Elsie (Page) Magnus. He grew up in the Bronx. He enlisted US Navy and served his country during later years of World War II. Upon his return he went to work at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx where he worked for many years before moving to the Upper Valley where he went to work for Thermal Dynamics where he worked until his retirement in 1990.

John had a nautical spirit, he loved to spend time on the water either a lake or the ocean, on the beach relaxing or fishing from a boat.

John is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Myer) Magnus; a son, John Magnus Jr.; and a brother, Walter Magnus.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (White) Magnus of White River Junction; a daughter, Carol Magnus of Burlington, Vt.; three sons, Michael Magnus of White River Junction, Carl Magnus of Sharon, Vt. and Patrick Magnus of Winooski, Vt.; three step children, Renne, Scott, and Amiee; a nephew, Kevin Murray and numerous other nieces, nephews; grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the North Hartland Community Church in North Hartland, Vt. at 11 a.m.
