Letter: Howe Library by the Numbers

To the Editor:

It’s always enlightening at the start of a new year to look back and review our work. I thought your readers might enjoy these significant Howe Library numbers for 2012: 258,196 items borrowed; 23 items borrowed per capita (the national average is 10 items per capita); 8,740 library card holders (a 14 percent increase over 2011); 348 days open; 246,000 visitors (estimated); 9,562 reference questions; 585 library programs; 10,125 library program attendance; 106 volunteers; 1,391 volunteer hours; 6,478 e-books and audiobooks borrowed (a 57 percent increase over 2011).

I would like to thank our many Upper Valley patrons for making Howe Library such a vibrant community-gathering place. We greatly appreciate your support.
