Kevin Patrick Sullivan

Hanover, N.H. — Kevin Patrick Sullivan, age 63, passed away on Christmas, Dec. 25, 2012, after battling heart disease, surviving a heart transplant, and succumbing to cancer. Kevin was born in Baltimore, Md., in 1949 to the late John and Mary Sullivan. In 1983, he was married to his loving wife, Linda, in Washington, D.C. They have two wonderful children: Kimberly, age 25, and Paul, age 19. After high school, Kevin turned down a football scholarship to Akron University in Ohio to pursue a career as a Special Agent with the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Md. While with the NSA, Kevin received the Presidential Award of Honor from President Ronald Reagan for his participation in the Iranian hostage rescue. He was a member of the U.S. Jaycees, President of the Laurel Chapter, and was awarded a Lifetime Membership in the Jaycees as a member of the Maryland Militia. He was also a Boy Scout leader in Hanover.

After 17 years, Kevin returned to medical school to become a Cardiovascular Technologist. He worked in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Southern Maryland Hospital and then at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md. In 1992, he and his family moved to Hanover. After being recruited to work in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he later became the supervisor. Kevin loved his work and took great pride in helping others recover from heart disease. In 2005, Kevin unfortunately had to give up his career due to his own illness. He worked part time for two years at Eastman’s Pharmacy in Hanover.

Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, NASCAR, and going to the ocean, but his real love was spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching Kim in her plays and Paul working with his racecar, as well as the special moments he shared with Linda. He valued being a member of the congregation at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hanover., and was always honored to read scriptures during the service. He was predeceased by one son, Shawn Andrew Sullivan. In addition to Linda, Kim and Paul, he leaves behind a brother, John Jr.; two surviving sons by a previous marriage, Kevin Jr. and Brendan; and many cousins in Maryland and Massachusetts.

Kevin’s wish was that his friends and family celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. He felt that he was blessed in many ways but especially in meeting and marrying Linda, and he felt privileged to be the father to his incredible children.

A viewing will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hanover on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Condolences may be expressed through Knight Funeral Home ( In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sullivan Family Fund at Mascoma Savings Bank’s Sykes Avenue branch in White River Junction. Donations will be used for funeral expenses and care for his wife, Linda, who suffers from a rare form of dementia called Picks Disease.
